A message from the New York State Department of Health regarding claiming reimbursement on lead remediation:
If your district has requested reimbursement for remediation efforts, you must submit invoices and receipts to the Department of Health’s Lead in School Drinking Water Program to receive reimbursement for the reported costs associated with the building(s) for which you are requesting reimbursement. This includes expenses related to signage, installation and replacement of taps, fountains, aerators, plumbing, filters, engineering controls, post-remediation sampling, and any other reported methods.
To receive reimbursement prior to March 31, invoices and receipts must be received by January 31, 2026 for the Lead in School Drinking Water program to process your request for reimbursement. If this documentation is not submitted, you will not be considered for reimbursement. Invoices and receipts should be emailed to lead.in.school.drinking.water@health.ny.gov.
If you identify any errors in your reimbursement request, such as data inconsistencies or calculation mistakes, revisit the HERDS survey, correct the information, and resubmit your request. Ensure that you report exact costs rounded to the nearest dollar, not estimates.
If you need any assistance or have questions, concerns, or require clarification, please contact the Department of Health’s Lead in School Drinking Water Program at lead.in.school.drinking.water@health.ny.gov.
