2004-2005 Definition of Charter School Data and Calculations

The adjusted expense per pupil equals the product of the school district's approved operating expense (AOE) per pupil for the year prior to the base year (2001-02 for 2003-04 adjusted expense and 2002-03 for 2004-05 adjusted expense) multiplied by the percentage increase of the total statewide approved operating expense for the base year over the total statewide approved operating expense for two years prior to the base year (2002-03 AOE increase over 2000-01 AOE for 2003-04 adjusted expense = 111.3%; 2003-04 AOE increase over 2001-02 AOE for 2004-05 adjusted expense = 112.4%). The final adjusted expense for each district is calculated based on data available to the Commissioner as of May 15 of the base year (May 15, 2003 for 2003-04 adjusted expense and May 15, 2004 for final 2004-05 adjusted expense).
