Special Service Vehicles (SSV)
Q. Can a Special Service Vehicle (SSV) be purchased for
use as a school bus vehicle?
Districts are responsible for seeking lower cost alternatives. Special
Service Vehicles (SSV) are specifically designed for law enforcement
type agencies and they have a significantly higher cost than the typical
carryall type Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) used for transporting students.
Therefore, an SSV is not necessary or appropriate for use as a school bus
vehicle and should not be purchased if an alternative is available. These
alternatives include finding a different dealership under a State Contract
or going out for local bid.
